The Age of Stupid Preview

The Age of Stupid film analysis

Yesterday our A level media class went on a field trip to cinema city in Norwich to see a post-modern film about climate change called ‘The Age of Stupid.’ http://www.ageofstupid.net/#
We went to see this film as it links in to our post-modern topic in class. The film itself was set out as a documentary but with Pete Postlethwaite as a man living by himself looking back on how we destroyed the world and did nothing about it. The way that the film was edited is very post-modern as he was sitting at his computer talking about issues and when he wants to show you a clip of the documentary he will search his computer and play it. The actual experience of going to a screening at cinema city was very professional as the seats are laid out so it’s more personal instead of a group of people just going to see a movie because it looks good. There was also a question and answer session at the end of the film to talk to the producer and some of the main contributors. This was very interesting as we could actually find out more about the film from a reliable source and in person aswel.

My role in the group

In our production my main role is the editing side of the whole production also I will be doing sound and lighting as I am quite experienced with this area of expertise. I am also very experienced with editing as I have edited most of all our other productions we achieved an A* for our other productions. The way we our going to edit it is going to be very slow to build tension. Lighting is going to be dark and dreary with the area behind the main scene blacked out. This focuses the audiences’ attention to the characters and what is going on instead of being distracted by what is going on in the background. As for sound most of the scene has no dialogue this gives an uncomfortable feeling to the room. We will also be using quite a deep ‘trancy’ soundtrack this will also build tension.
